Busy Bees is a hive of activity where fun and learning go hand in hand.
Busy Bees was originally created nearly 20 years ago to fill a gap between the Swiss school system and the international schools. At the time my two daughters were in our local kindergarten in Oberrieden and I wanted them to be educationally prepared in case we decided to return home. In the UK formal learning starts at a much younger age with children typically learning to read at the age of four.
In just a few years Busy Bees grew from a small group of four children in my basement to over 60 children with its own premises. However, first and foremost I was a mum and found myself spending less and less time with the very children Busy Bees had been created to help – my own. I therefore took the huge decision to close Busy Bees.
Now my little girls have grown up and my eldest daughter, Élodie, is training to be a teacher. Together, our goal is to bring Busy Bees to a new generation of children. In its original creation Busy Bees only taught reading and writing. However, moving foward, Élodie and I want to offer additional support in German too, together with sharing our love of books and using soft toys to bring picture books to life for younger children.
Busy Bees aims to support both parents and children, both in the local and international schools across the curriculum. It hopes to provide a ‘buzz’ of activity in its cosy ‘hive’ where friendships can be made and a love of learning and a belief in oneself can blossom.
